ACT House & Landscaping Maintenance offers landscaping in Gungahlin as part of its work across Canberra, and we cover every suburb in the district, from Ngunnawal and Amaroo to Taylor, Throsby and Moncrieff. Much of the work here is on newer blocks: bare yards behind new builds, first lawns and gardens, and the earthmoving that has to happen before any of it. We have no separate suburb pages for Gungahlin yet, so this page brings together our five Gungahlin guides and the services behind them. Call 0406 700 400 to check a date for your street.
Gungahlin is Canberra’s northern-most district, and the ACT Government’s Gungahlin District Strategy describes it as the city’s major greenfield growth area since the early 1990s. Older parts such as Nicholls, Ngunnawal and Amaroo have the curved streets and culs-de-sac of earlier Canberra suburbs. Amaroo, Casey and Moncrieff hold the group centres, and Crace is known for terraces and attached homes. Harrison, Franklin, Palmerston and Throsby are among the other suburbs. Taylor, Jacka and Kenny are the last greenfield suburbs still being built, and the district also takes in the Mitchell industrial area.
The same strategy records that around 66% of Gungahlin dwellings were detached houses in 2021, so most homes still have a yard of their own. Those yards tend to be smaller than in older districts, and the trees are young. In 2020 the most established suburbs had the highest tree canopy, from 17% in Amaroo to 23% in Palmerston, and the strategy calls the district an urban heat hotspot in hot weather.
For a garden, that points to shade trees chosen for the space, soil prepared properly before turf, and planting that copes with frost and dry summers. Our residential landscaping page covers the full build, and lawn care keeps a new lawn going once it is down.
Staging a new Taylor garden over time and picking materials that hold up, so the spend goes where it counts.
What pushes a Moncrieff landscaping job up or down, from earthmoving and walls to irrigation and plants.
A step-by-step list for a bare block, starting with site analysis and finishing with turf and planting.
How access, soil type and scope shape the price of excavation on a new Throsby block.
A yearly calendar for frost, summer watering and lawn work in Gungahlin gardens, new or settled.
On a bare block, the sequence saves money: levels and drainage first, then walls and paths, then turf and plants. Our excavation services handle the site cuts, levelling and trenching, and a sloping yard may need retaining walls before anything else goes in. If you are still working out a budget, the landscaping cost guide explains what drives a quote. Once the garden is established, regular gardening services cover pruning, weeding and mulching.
Yes. Regular visits for pruning, weeding, mulching and mowing are available anywhere in the district. Tell us the suburb, the size of the garden and how often you would like us to come.
Yes. New streets are covered as people move in. Send the plans or a few photos of the block, and we can talk through what the yard needs first.
It depends on access and on the finished levels around the house. Talk to us and your builder together, and we will plan the work for when the site is clear.
